General requirements
The following requirements are common to all types of visa. According to it, your application will need some other kind of documents.
- Application Form DP-FO-67.
Dully filled out for all the applications. - Valid Passport or travel document, in good condition, with a minimum of two blank pages.
- Copy of the main page of the passport.
- Copy of previous Colombian visas
- Two (2) photographs, passport size, white background.
- Application and Visa fees in Money Order pay to the order of Consulado de Colombia. PLEASE CHECK THE FEES ACCORDING TO THE TYPE OF VISA, IT COULD VARY.
- PLEASE VERIFY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. Each document MUST be original.
The length of time required to issue the visa is from 3 days to 5 days. Some visas will require even 10 days.
Note: Validity depends on trip's dates.

TYPES OF VISA AND COST
REMEMBER:
Application and visa fee must be brought in two different Money Orders, both payable to: "Consulado de Colombia en Nueva York".
Exceptions:
• U.S.A. Citizens do not pay the fee for: Business, Student and Temporary Special visas, but do pay the application fee (US$50). Nevertheless, are required to pay the fee for others visas different than the above.
• JAPANESE Citizens: no visas fees are required, but have to pay the application fee (US$50).
• SPAIN Citizens: no visas fees are required, but have to pay the application fee (US$50).
• ECUADORIAN Citizens: no visas fees are required, but have to pay application fee (US$30). For Student Visa, the application fee is US$15.
• Visas ALIANZA PACÍFICO (MEXICO, PERU and CHILE). Only those who hold executives positions and are going on business to Colombia on behalf of their company. Cost: US$80.
A courtesy visa may be granted to foreigners of recognized prestige or when it is considered advisable for the Colombian State.

A business visa may be granted to a foreigner who is accredited as a business person, legal representative, director or executive of a foreign company who wishes to enter the country to establish a commercial presence.
Note:Unless you were HOSTING a meeting (not attending) or SIGNING any document with a legal background, you will not need a Business Visa (Countries with NO visa requirement for VISITOR entry ONLY).
A courtesy visa may be granted to foreigners of recognized prestige or when it is considered advisable for the Colombian State.

Form DP-FO-66 “Commitment to report any change of occupation” duly filled out. In the case of exercising a regulated profession, the foreign resident as a relative of a Colombian national shall present the documents permitting him/her to practice the regulated profession, such as a certification of equivalence or validation of the professional qualification, the provisional permit or license to practice or the registration or professional card. |
Qualified Resident
A qualified resident’s visa may be granted:
- To a foreigner who has been a holder of a temporary visa and who has lived in national territory regularly for at least five (5) continuous, uninterrupted years and presents an application within at least the thirty (30) calendar days prior to expiration of the visa, except in the case of duly proven force majeure or act of God, or,
- To a foreigner who is a father or mother of a Colombian national, or,
- To a foreigner who is of age and, as beneficiary of a holder of a qualified resident’s visa, evidences an activity or source of income and has remained in national territory for a minimum of five (5) continuous and uninterrupted years at the time of requesting the visa, or,
- To a foreigner who has been a holder of a temporary visa as a spouse or permanent partner of a Colombian national for a continuous, uninterrupted term of three (3) years.
The following are excepted:
Holders of the following visas: preferential, courtesy, business, crew member’s visa, visitor’s visa, temporary special category, medical treatment, to appear in administrative or judicial processes, as a cooperator or volunteer of a non-profit entity or non-government organization (NGO) and for adoption procedures.

A resident investor’s visa may be granted to a foreigner who makes a direct foreign investment in his/her own name, in accordance with the International Investments Statute and other conforming rules in force at the time of the request.

Temporary Worker
This visa may be granted to a foreigner contracted by a public or private company, entity or institution or a natural person wishing to enter or remain in this country for the purposes of engaging in work in his/her specialty, to personnel transferred from abroad to occupy a specific position in a Colombian company; volunteers and missionaries who do not form part of the hierarchy of the religious entity, to a foreigner who is a member of an artistic, sports or cultural group contracted by reason of his/her activity, when it is remunerated.

This visa may be granted to a foreigner who has contracted valid matrimony with a Colombian national or who fulfills the requirements for a permanent partner, in accordance with present Colombian legislation.

This visa may be granted to foreigners who wish to enter Colombia for rest or recreation and who require a tourist visa to enter and remain temporarily in Colombia. 1. A Colombian citizen can apply for an American visa in the Consulate of Colombia? May the consulate help in the process?
No. The Consulate of Colombia issues visas just for those foreigners who want to enter the country. The Consulate cannot interfere or help in the process to get a visa to come to the United States or any other country.
2. Do I need an appointment to apply for a visa?
No, it is not necessary. You may come in our open times and be attended. The Visas Section is open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 1.45pm. We are going to be closed some holidays, so please check our web site to get to know.
3. May I send all my documents for the application via regular mail or email? Can somebody else give them in my name?
No. The applicant must come in person as he/she will be interviewed and the documents will be evaluated.
4. Where can I find the application form DP-FO-67 and the others mentioned in the requirements?
All the forms are available on the web site of the Consulate www.consuladodecolombiany.com, Visas Section.
5. Do I have to leave my passport? How long does it take to be my visa issued?
We do need your passport as the visa needs to be pasted. The issuance of your visa will take 3 to 5 days, and according to your country and purpose of your trip, it can take almost 10 days. Please verify your country in the list.
6. How long do I have to wait to be attended and the interview?
It takes 30 to 60 minutes to be attended. The interview is not going to take more than 20 minutes.
7. May I apply for the visa at the Consulate, even if I do not live in the area around the Consulate?
Yes. The most important thing is to have all your documents in order.
8. How can I get my residency in Colombia?
It is a process. As a requirement, the residency can be given after being living in Colombia for more than 5 years and have a valid temporary visa. Those who are trying to apply cannot leave the country for more than six months.
9. May I apply for my Cédula de Extranjería at the Consulate?
No. it has to be requested at Migración Colombia in any of its offices in the country. At the Consulate, we are able to give you the list of its locations. Also, you can visit Migración Colombia's web site (http://www.migracioncolombia.gov.co)
